sharing birthing experiences

PEER2PEER SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Our Peer2Peer Support Service is a safe space to share your birthing experience.

BECAUSE PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND EARLY PARENTHOOD ISN'T ALWAYS THE BEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE

Our peer-led services are designed to help guide you to a place of acceptance and give you a sense of hope for the future. We have a community of trained volunteers who have a personal experience of birth-related trauma, and they are ready to help guide and support you. Our peer-support volunteers are walking, talking proof that things can get better.

Our Services

Our Peer2Peer services are available across Australia, offering different ways to connect at the right time, space, place and pace for you.

Peer2Peer Social

Connect with others

Join our private, peer-moderated Facebook support group.

We know first-hand that suffering from birth trauma can be a lonely and isolating experience, but we want you to know that you are not alone. We have a judgement-free community that you can easily connect with.

Knowing where to start when seeking support can be challenging, and word-of-mouth recommendations are the best way to find someone for your needs. This can be a good place to start your journey back to wellness.

Peer2Peer Meets

Group Programs

Delivered in-person and online, our six-week, peer-led program is designed to help you make sense of and understand your birth experience.

Led by our trained peer facilitators, you’ll be guided with engaged, open conversations and storytelling. So you can see that recovery and acceptance is possible.

Peer2Peer Online Chat

One on One Support

Our Peer2Peer Chat is an online (written text)* service that connects you with a trained Peer Support Volunteer.

All of our Peer Volunteers have a lived experience of birth-related trauma. You can book directly with a volunteer of your choice at a time when you are comfortable so we can give you the best support possible.

*Please note: voice or video calling isn’t available at present.

Let us know if you need a translator when you make your booking. ABTA is proud to work with the National Relay Service (NRS) and Translation and Interpreting Service (TIS)P

I never realised how helpful it would be to chat to other like-minded mothers about birth, yet after one chat, I certainly feel value in it."

Our groups are offered online and in person.

Online sessions are 1.5 hours. In-person sessions are 2 hours.

Children are most welcome at our in person sessions.

Programs are run periodically and advertised via our social media channels and on this page. See above for the scheduled programs and registration.

All support services provided by ABTA are completely FREE! We are blessed with volunteers who themselves have had a lived experience of birth related trauma and selflessly give their time to support others.

Mentor Applications

We are currently accepting expressions of interest from men and women wishing to be peer support volunteers with the ABTA. Training and ongoing support are provided and your time commitment is very flexible so you can honour your family, work and leisure commitments.

Other options for support

Women are welcome to join our Facebook Group – Australasian Birth Trauma Support to connect with other mothers and ask questions about trauma recovery.
